This is a perfect job opportunity for a recent turf-school graduate or anyone looking to take the next step in their professional career. The Assistant in Training will be given the opportunity to hone their skills in golf course maintenance as well as acquire new ones. The eventual goal of this position is to be promoted, after 6 – 12 months, to Assistant Superintendent.

Potential responsibilities of this job include: project management, pesticide applications, irrigation repairs and scheduling, hand watering, mowing, course setup, and assisting the equipment mechanic in machine setup and maintenance.

Poppy Ridge Golf Course is located in San Francisco’s East Bay just outside of the city of Livermore, California. The golf course is nestled in Livermore’s wine county with a Mediterranean climate that has hot summers and mild winters. Owned by the Northern California Golf Association, along with our sister course Poppy Hills, we host many NCGA events throughout the year and receive 55,000 rounds annually.

Education – Two or four year degree in turfgrass management or related field.
Experience – Two or more years of golf course maintenance, increasing responsibility preferred.
Special Requirements – Must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to obtain, or already possess, a California QAC within 90 days. Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

This a full time position with pay starting at $17 - $18 per hour, after 90 days the position would be eligible for benefits including: health, dental, vision, vacation, sick, holidays, golf privileges, etc. The goal of this position is promotion to Assistant Superintendent within 6 – 12 months.
