Oregon Processed Vegetable Commission
The Oregon Processed Vegetable Commission funds production research for six vegetables used for processing: snap beans, broccoli, table beets, carrots, cauliflower and sweet corn. Research funds come from assessments paid by growers, collected by processors and remitted annually to the Commission.
Eleven members comprise the Commission – seven producers, three processors representatives and one public member. The director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture appoints commissioners who can serve a maximum of two consecutive three year terms.
State law (ORS Chapter 576) governs the operation of Oregon commodity commissions like the Oregon Processed Vegetable Commission. The law creates the Commission and establishes the maximum assessment rate the Vegetable Commission can levy, .5% of the value of the commodity. All of Oregon's 26 commodity commissions are under the jurisdiction of the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
