If you have a passion for plants and are interested in gaining practical experience on growing plants in a wholesale environment, then this is the internship for you. This program will allow you to work with 1000s of plant varieties and will expose you to Monrovia’s methods for what it takes to grow a “Distinctively Better®” plant.

Self-motivated individuals majoring in Ornamental Horticulture or related fields are invited to come learn from our experienced Craftsmen in this hands-on program. The work will include all aspects of production such as propagation, shipping, research, canning, assembling of orders, staking and tying, pruning and spacing. Time is also scheduled for classroom and field trip instruction.

The program runs for 9-weeks beginning in June and ending in August. It will be offered at all four of Monrovia’s nurseries including Visalia, California (~50 miles south of Fresno); Dayton, Oregon (~40 miles southwest of Portland); Cairo, Georgia (~50 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida); and Granby, Connecticut (~20 northwest of Hartford). The scheduled work week is Monday through Friday. While hours vary by location, they are typically around 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Interns are paid $11.00 per hour to cover living expenses. Internship housing and transportation is the responsibility of each intern. We offer assistance in finding or sharing housing. Monrovia is a drug and alcohol-free workplace so all program participants are required to complete and pass a drug and alcohol screening test.

The number of internships granted for the 2015 Summer Internship Program is limited, so apply early and no later than March 15, 2015. Apply on-line at www.monrovia.com and be sure to identify which nursery you prefer. Don’t forget to attach a cover letter and resume with your application, indicating any horticultural industry affiliation you may have, e.g., FFA, horticultural clubs, previous work experience. If you have any specific questions about the program, please contact Claudia Santana at (626) 513-0230.
