The golf course maintenance department at Overlake Golf & Country Club is comprised of a management team that strives for excellence and continuous improvement to the golf course. The goal of the internship program is to instill this mentality within the mindset of the intern, as well as expose them to all aspects of golf course management that will further prepare them to enter the industry. An intern that shows up to work each day with a positive attitude, solid work ethic and open mind will have a very rewarding experience at Overlake Golf & Country Club.

Golf Course Overview

Overlake Golf & Country Club is an 18 hole private club located in Medina, WA, minutes from downtown Seattle. The club was originally established in 1927 and re-designed by golf course architect Arthur Vernon Macan in 1953. Recent improvements to the course and its facilities include an updated Rainbird irrigation system in 2005, new cart paths in 2007 and a new maintenance facility in 2009. The club recently began the implementation of an extensive golf course improvement plan developed by golf course architect Jeff Mingay.


Intern will be exposed to all aspects of golf course maintenance and integrated plant management. The internship will be comprised of a structured educational plan with multiple job duties to ensure a well rounded experience that will prepare the intern to enter the industry.

Integrated Plant Management

The internship will offer a great opportunity to be exposed to integrated plant management strategies for maximized turfgrass health and playability. The intern will gain experience in both cultural and chemical programs being performed at the golf course.

Equipment Operation and Routine Maintenance Practices

The intern will become a proficient operator of all golf course equipment and will be able to perform all routine golf course maintenance practices.

Irrigation Management

Daily planning, operation of central controls, hand watering and system repair are aspects of irrigation management that the intern will be involved in.

Employee Management

The intern will be exposed to various employee management strategies by the superintendent and assistant superintendents.

Equipment Maintenance

The intern will have the opportunity to work with the Equipment Manager in preparing the equipment to be used on the golf course.

Membership Relations

The internship will provide exposure to a highly detailed golf course maintenance operation at a private golf club and its correlation with an active seasonal membership. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend various committee meetings.

Golf Course Architecture

Overlake Golf & Country Club is currently in the implementation stages of an extensive golf course improvement plan. The intern will become educated in golf course architectural planning and ideologies.


The intern must currently be pursuing a two/four year degree in related field. Desirable candidate attributes include: eagerness to learn; solid work ethic; self motivated; excitement to enter the industry; plays and enjoys the game of golf.


$12/hour plus overtime & weekends
