Silvies Valley Ranch Resort golf course operation will be accepting two interns to assist with construction during the summer term 2013. The internship will start on June 20th and last through the end of summer term. Applications will be considered through March 2013. The two selected will each receive a $3,000 scholarship through Oregon State University.

Interns will be part of the golf course construction team. As part of the team the intern will receive in-field training and experience that will be valuable to their future in the golf course maintenance field. There will be long days and dirty jobs, but the Silvies team will strive to make the experience very rewarding and educational. The construction during the 2012 summer will include: drainage and irrigation installation, green, tee and bunker construction, finish grading, seed preparation, grassing, grow-in and finally mowing. The intern will perform variety of jobs and be trained to operate multiple pieces of construction equipment.

Prior construction experience is not necessary although some golf course maintenance experience in preferred. All interns must be pursuing degrees in the OSU school of Horticulture with a Turf Management option. Interns must have a passion of golf courses as well as the environment. Among others you will learn from Dan Hixson, golf course designer and project manager.

Silvies Valley Ranch is located in the beautiful Silvies Valley between John Day and Burns.

The interns will share housing that will be provided by the ranch in the form of a new apartment attached to the golf course maintenance building. The apartment is fully furnished with a TV, refrigerator, washer / dryer, and equipped kitchen. All utilities will be provided by the ranch. A scholarship for interns of $3,000 will be paid through OSU; completion of the internship is required. Securing school credit for the internship is your responsibility, but can be facilitated by Kelly Donegan at OSU.
