VegNet Regional Pest Trends for the Week of August 15th, 2016

  • It is apparent that we are experiencing a Cabbage Looper (Trichoplusia ni - CL) boom this year. Activity is well above historic norms (FIG.2), yet not as bad as the outbreak of 8 years ago. Continue to intensify field scouting for loopers (FIG. 1) and remember that CL has a wide host range including tomato, pepper, squash, snap bean, and ornamentals. For head and stem brassicas, the risk of contamination is high.
