Our research program has three primary objectives:

  • to develop blackberry, red and black raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry cultivars for the commercial small fruit industry.
  • to expand germplasm available to plant breeders by collecting wild species of Rubus, Vaccinium and Fragaria. This material is then evaluated and incorporated into advanced breeding material.
  • identification and evaluation of potential new small fruit crops.

Active in all stages of berry breeding from parental selection through cultivar release. Program has released over three dozen berry cultivars that are grown around the world.

Collected and evaluated many species from around the world particularly China, Andean S. America, and the US for their usefulness as breeding material.
