Dr. Galimba's research program encompasses all aspects of both pear (Pyrus communis) and sweet cherry (Prunus avium) orchard production systems, with specific emphasis on optimizing yield and fruit quality in these two crops. Current projects include the development of a cherry cold hardiness model to predict frost risk, evaluation of alternative pollinizers for the pear industry, and various plant growth regulator trials aimed at optimizing fruit set and size. Collaborative projects include assessing the performance of phase-two selections from the WSU sweet cherry breeding program and evaluating non-Pyrus rootstocks that provide dwarfing and precocity to pear scions.
