At Oregon State University, Dr. Ryan Contreras leads a purpose-driven ornamental breeding program. Our program is not just about breeding pretty plants, it looks for function as well as form. In addition to aesthetics, new selections are evaluated on qualities like water requirement, pollinator attractiveness, pruning requirements, drought tolerance, disease resistance, invasive potential, and more.
Check out his webpage for program updates and how to get involved with the ornamentals breeding program at OSU.
